How CATALYST changed my life!

Friday, December 15th, 2006

Funny how God can shape ones life…placing you where you are at the moment…letting things happen to you…all for His good reason!

My high school life was a mess. I got many enemies, and i love ruining people’s lives! I could say it was a "hobby". It was that moment in my life when I could say I sold my soul to the Devil. Since my father died when I was in my 1st year of high school, nothing was the same for me. I’ve changed overnight!

When I passed my entrance exams in DLSU, I was pretty confident I would be studying in Manila rather than Cebu. But to no avail, I ended up here. That’s when I met YM (CATALYST) through the help and patience of my best buddy, David. It’s so weird and odd how God made me meet him, and eventually take me to a group of young Christian worshipers who in turn, helped me in shaping my life with God’s guidance. KAdes has been a BIG help to me with regards to my walk with life.

The group expanded in numbers, and so did their hearts for the Lord. I couldn’t say I’m a "regular" Catalyst since I’m banned to attend any of their services by my family. But I really don’t mind as long as God is with me, and helping me through life. It’s such a joy to see the group growing under the Lord. Cebu City definately would see a great change because of Catalyst and other Christians.

One of my first few friends there were David, AJ, JR, Emmanuel, Elsie, Brent, Camille, Maryanne, Pam, and KAdes. I remember these people so well because they all contributed to the turning point of my life—that first night I attended YM (august 20, 2004) Thanks to them, i was able to meet the Lord!

I’m sure the group would continue to grow and fish for new children that are in need of the Lord. That’s what we do best!

CATALYST meets every Saturday afternoon at Church of Our King, 2nd level of Mango Square beside Bites and Brews coffee shop, and Monster Radio. Hope you could all make it!

Double Majors Pioneer Batch!

020029_1

I’ve always been told that high school is the best chapter of a student’s life. In my case, i beg to disagree! I had the best roller coaster ride right here at this humble university, right now with the PIONEER Batch of BS Business Administration Double Majors in Marketing Management and Entrepreneurship.

My greetings to all BA-rolinians! Our dear department has been offering us with quality business administration courses with majors. There are so many of them, but what’s the latest fuss in DMME (Double Majors)? I’m about to take you to a trip of how it is to be in our shoes.

Not only are we enrolled in the longest course in the history if BA in this university, but we are also enrolled in the greatest ride of our lives! There were only a few of us who really started out as double major students, the population dramatically increased in the second semester of our first years. The fun never ended since.

Friendship is number one in our batch. We make it a point to get to know each and everyone, play games (even during class hours), and of course, we have an unending list of whose house to visit and mess around next. When did we start to be "this close" you may ask. Ironically, we didn’t get close and bonded up when we were having our weekly trips to the malls, or movie marathons, we got this close during our endless chain of PLANS all submitted (finally) last semester.

Last semester, 3rd year first semester, was the wackiest and craziest part of my college life. And I’m sure my batch mates would say the same. If this was a roller coaster ride, this would be the part when we are having 24/7 loops. To make it worse, the ride malfunctioned and we are stuck in mid-air…upside down! What a treat! (At least the loops stopped…at a very inconvenient position though).

During that semester, we had our Mark 33’s Integrated Marketing Communications (IMC) Plan under Miss Melanie Banzuela-de Ocampo with cooperation with the College of Architechture and Fine Arts Major in Advertising Arts (CAFA-AA) students; Mark 31’s Distribution Channel Plan under Miss Joyce Natalie Yang, and Mr. Sol-Owen Figues (there were two classes); Operating Investment Plan under Mr. Rhodelio E.L. Campilan’s Finc15; another heavy plan in Geo41 under Mr. James Uy (we were made to MAKE maps of a certain location and do extensive research about the location); and the most sought-after memorial plan from Cosmopolitan Funeral Homes. I could say the funeral homes were doing great in business!

Of course, I’m joking about the last plan. These requirements were submitted and defended by the end of the semester. It was actually the first time I felt that I am no longer capable of completing anything because of all the requirements to be submitted. Nevertheless, as I’ve said, stronger bonds were established. I’ve bonded more with my group mates (hi gurlz), and so did the other groups. Every group shared laughter, smiles, bright ideas, fun, tears, sweat, petty fights and arguments, disappointments, frustrations, brain drains and even burnouts. Sleepovers were very rampant during this semester. We actually felt that we were no longer living in our homes. Our family barely sees us. The time that they would hear from us was only when we are asking permission for another sleepover. Okay, I’m exaggerating but I’m sure you see my point. Ironically, we don’t sleep during sleepovers. The teachers should have just bought weighing scales during our defense and measure our eye luggage. The group with the heaviest eye luggage wins!

Although the work was heavy last semester, we never regretted taking up double majors. We are proud that we were in it, still in it, and will make it through together. Right now, as we journey to the next chapter, our Project Feasibility Study (Entrep39), we are all expecting more adventures coming our way. The beauty of being a part of this batch is that everyday is a new day to us. We don’t know what is in store since we are the first ones that are going to be trying it out. The "thrill" is there. During the three years under this program, we learned to be independent. We cannot rely on higher batches since we are the first batch and that made DMME such an excitement.

Aside from all these school work, we still find time to relax and hang out with each other, and continue to nurture our friendship under the guidance of God. We have a Department of Laag, who carefully plans the next double major activity with whole heart and enthusiasm under the leadership of Chairman Stephanie Agustinne "Inee" Villa. We have our very own DMMC, Double Majors Murag Carolers, bringing the yuletide season to cheery and happy homes under the coaching of Mr. David Tangal. (Okay, I admit, I made the group’s name just now while writing this. Hehe!) We have the Creative Thinkers to thank for the successful OA Awards that has been at existence for many seasons already, accompanied with great hosting skills of Mr. Kenneth Lopez. And of course, our very own version of Yahoo! Messenger, DMTC (Double Majors Text Club). Before joining, make sure that your phone is in perfect condition because it wouldn’t be after you’ve already taken part in this crazy-inbox-flooding-no-mercy text club! Enjoy while your phone still can. We are also coming up with our own dictionary that contains our favorite random expressions and words. You see, this batch is a pool of fun-loving and creative individuals which makes this batch even better! We have, Jian Lasala, a promising fashion designer, and our very own photographer Miss Krisli Joyce Go!

All these wouldn’t be possible without the competent teachers who lovingly share their knowledge and wisdom to all of us. Thanks and kudos to teachers such as Mr. Rhodelio E.L. Campilan, our BA Chairman who takes time off to listen to our concerns and helping us make this course as enjoyable as it can get; Miss Melanie Banzuela-de Ocampo, school has never been this fun without her motivation, and inspiring words; and to all teachers of the BA department who all made a difference and an impact to each student enrolled in this curriculum. We salute you all!

In DMME everyone is Kapuso and Kapamilya, no one gets left out. We are all together may it be in school work, or simply having fun–which we technically do better than the former! LOL! =)

If you ask me, college is the best! I wouldn’t ask for any other set of classmates020047_1!!
